• Animal Importation Form

  • Please complete this form if you are requesting animals from a source other than a Tufts CMS approved vendor. Contact TuftsCMS-importation@tufts.edu for any questions. Please read the Guidelines for Rodent Importation for information on categories of quarantine, costs, topical selamectin treatment and fenbendazole and uniprim antibiotic treatment given the animals on arrival, length of time in quarantine, and other important information.
  •  Tufts Information

  • Genotyping, Genetic Monitoring, and Microbiome

Tufts CMS strongly recommends that you genotype the animals you receive.

Transnetyx is offering a “Passport Program” which helps researchers eliminate variability and achieve better, more reproducible science by providing genotyping, genetic monitoring, and microbiome testing of mouse models at the time of importation (or after). The cost of the service is a flat fee of $250. Free access to Transnetyx Colony software for colony management also is included. If you are interested in this service, contact TuftsCMS-importation@tufts.edu and we can provide you with the hard copy Passport booklet from Transnetyx that contains unique QR codes as well as the 96-well plates for genotyping and the microbiome kits. We can assist you in collecting samples during importation quarantine or you can collect and submit the samples yourself following quarantine. For more information on the program, please contact the Transnetyx representative Karen Lindstrom at klindstrom@transnetyx.com.

  •  Source Information

  • Animal Facility Contact:
  • Please list the name and email of at least one person such as a veterinarian or animal export coordinator in the source animal facility who is knowledgeable about the facility health status and whom we can contact for health reports. This is generally NOT someone from the research laboratory. We will send this person a request for a health report.
  • Other contacts:
  •  Animals

  • IACUC and IBC

A new IACUC amendment or IBC registration may be needed for the animals you are importing. Please review the following documents:

IBC Policy on the Use of Transgenic Animals

    IACUC Policy Regarding Intraspecies Amendments

Contact IBC-office@tufts.edu or IACUC-office@tufts.edu for any questions.

  • STERILE CAGING: Standard quarantine caging is the same clean caging used in standard Tufts CMS animal housing rooms. If the animals have an immunodeficiency and you feel they would be better housed in special sterile caging in which the cages are autoclaved as individual units after cleaning, we can arrange this at additional charge. Sterile caging is meant to reduce the opportunistic organisms that the animals may encounter, but does not guarantee that the animals could become or do not arrive already infected with opportunistic agents.

  • Planned Use

  • The housing and use of imported animals presents some risk of spread of rodent pathogens to other Tufts CMS rodent colonies if the animals are not tested for common adventitious agents, which is the situation for animals used immediatedly on arrival or animals housed for less than 4 weeks. Reduce risk of cross contamination by following the steps below.

  • When you have completed the form, hit the "Submit" button below. You will receive a notification of receipt of your form by email within a few minutes. If you do not, please contact TuftsCMS-importation@tufts.edu to ensure that the submission was received.
