    • Rescue Water Craft Operators 
    • The Rescue Water Craft Operator or RWC (jet ski) service works closely with on-beach lifesavers to conduct roving patrols, surveillance and rescue missions along the coastline. As an RWC operator, you will use your training and skills to manage and operate this vital piece of lifesaving equipment to watch over and protect beachgoers.

      Operator Prerequisites:

      • Works Based assessment + Fitness assessment
      • Personal Water Craft License
      • Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) (Bronze Medallion)
      • Advanced Resuscitation Techniques (HLTAID015 or equivalent).
      • Provide First Aid (HLTAID011 or its successor or equivalent).
      • C Class drivers license (or interstate equivalent)
    • Surfcom Operator 
    • As a Communications Officer in Surfcom, you will play a key role behind the scenes, liaising with on-beach lifesavers and coordinating SLSQ’s response to coastal incidents, rescues and major first aid treatments in real-time. You will provide an important link to emergency services and will be responsible for liaising directly with police and ambulance officers when required. 

      You will also take charge of monitoring activity along Queensland’s expansive coastline using state-of-the-art technology, including GPS tracking and SLSQ’s wide-reaching network of coastal surveillance cameras.

      Operator Prerequisites:

      • Be a minimum of 16 years old;
      • Completion of a works based assessment
      • SLSA Bronze Medallion or a SLSA Radio Operators certificate;
      • Minimum 25 hour over the last 3 patrolling seasons. Or other experience as deemed acceptable OCS.
    • Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems Pilot 
    • SLSQ utilise UAVs with the SharkSmart Patrols at 10 locations around Queensland in Partnership with the Queensland Government. We also conduct safety flights for events and can assist with Search and Rescue Operations in Emergencies.

    • Duty Officer 
    • Duty Officers provide vital support to surf life saving clubs and patrol captains each weekend, ensuring that services are rolled out effectively and efficiently across South East Queensland. As a Duty Officer, you will be responsible for liaising with a wide range of key stakeholders including clubs, patrol captains & their patrol groups, emergency service organisations, SurfCom operators, individual members and media outlets to ensure that beach-goers are offered maximum protection and the best possible outcome is achieved for all parties.

      Duty Officer Prerequisites:

      • Pass a works based assessment and exam (SOPS/OPS)
      • SLSA Silver Medallion Beach Management Award
      • Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) (Bronze Medallion)
      • Advanced Resuscitation Techniques (HLTAID015 or equivalent)
      • Provide First Aid (HLTAID011 or its successor or equivalent)
      • State 4WD Induction
      • Minimum 3-year equivalent patrol hours (120 hours) or lifesaving service

      Commence within 12months:

      • Phase 1 Search and Rescue
      • Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements Training
    • Helicopter Rescue Crew Officer 
    • SLSQ’s Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter Service is manned by both fulltime and volunteer crew members. This structure ensures a rich blend of experience across the service, while also providing a clear pathway for volunteer surf lifesavers to up-skill and transfer their patrol experience from the beach to the sky.

      Helicopter crew members are highly trained, qualified and motivated members of the surf lifesaving movement.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Certificate II in Public Safety (Aquatic Rescue) (Bronze Medallion).
      • Advanced Resuscitation Techniques (HLTAID007 or equivalent.
      • Provide First Aid (HLTAID003 or its successor or equivalent).
      • Other awards additional to those specified above will be considered when selecting candidates
      • Holds a current Working with Children Clearance (previously known as a Blue Card).
      • Open vehicle driver’s license
      • Have completed a minimum of three (3) years SLS beach patrol service.

      NOTE: No age requirement for crew applications, it is to be determined by the prerequisites including patrol experience and minimum awards.

    After you submit your Operations Support Application, you will recieve an email from the WLRHS service with a link to the full Rescue Crew form.

    You do not have to wait for the club or Panel endorsement to begin your application.

  • I hereby declare that:

    • I have completed a minimum of one year and 50 hours of active beach patrol (some services may have higher requirements);
    • I have completed the above hours of patrol duty since obtaining my SLSA Bronze Medallion;
    • I am physically fit as a surf lifesaver; and
    • I will make myself available to attend all appropriate training sessions associated with the Service.

    (Point 3 is not applicable to SurfCom Operators)

    IMPORTANT:

    Applicants must be prepared to do two (2) full years service  (subject to extenuating circumstances, eg. Job transfer). If a crew member resigns before full service is completed, such member will forfeit any rights to join the SLSQ Operations Support at any future time.  Being a member of the crew does not give the privilege to neglect normal Club duties.  Accordingly, applicants must realise that SLSQ Operations Support involvement is an extra duty and not a substitute for normal Club duties, and by becoming involved, you may be committing yourself to further obligations over and above your present surf life saving activities.

  • All applications are subject to endorsement by your Surf Life Saving Club and the Operations Support Panel. SLSQ will forward your application for consideration and endorsement and will not progress with your appliction until endorsement has been received. Upon receiving endorsement from both your Surf Life Saving Club and the Operations Support Panel, SLSQ will advise you of the result. The length of time for this process to be completed can vary.
