PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THIS SECTION BEFORE YOU PROCEED
At Milparinka we have very strong values that influence both the type of relationships that we have with people we support and the way we provide supports. These commitments influence how we respond to people, direct our staff and how we work. In this section here we have put three key areas that provide frameworks for how we work. Read these before you invest any more time or energy into making an application to us. If you find that you think these values make sense to you and you think that you can work within the framework they provide then keep going, we would be happy to hear from you. If on the other hand you find that you disagree with these values and would struggle to work within the framework they create then its probably a great idea that you save some time and don’t continue with making an application.
Also to be employed at Milparinka you will need a current Drivers licence and we need you to be available for work when we need you so please be sure to read the section on availability to see if you should continue with this aplication.
Giving People Better Stories to Tell
At Milparinka, we work alongside of people who have a disability to help them to have better stories to tell. Helping people to have better stories to tell is not always easy. It takes time to know people, to find the places and people who match who, and what, our participants want to be, sometimes it needs stopping something and starting again, it takes staff who know how to help someone build skills and relationship while becoming less visible themselves. But what it also is, is it’s NEVER IMPOSSIBLE.
It does not matter if someone can’t talk, cross a road, make a sandwich, needs help to go to the toilet or walk. It doesn’t matter if they wear continence aids or are peg fed; if you do things one person at a time and surround people with people who imagine better and expect more, then you they will end up having better stories to tell.
Principles That Will Affect How You Work
We have a strong commitment to what we believe. Some of the key principles we would expect to be able to see reflected in your work for us are.
Each person is unique and our assistance is provided to support each individual to achieve a lifestyle that reflects their individual interests, ambitions and visions. (not staffs)
People do better in having autonomy and self direction when they are able to communicate their needs and wants more effectively. We support people to identify and develop the most effective forms of communication for themselves to be able to communicate more effectively and have greater influence in their lives.
People have the authority and autonomy to self direct their services and to change their mind and find something that is better to do. This takes priority over staff or organisational need for structure.
We support the use of generic services over segregated services with emphasis on natural supports and social inclusion.
We support people in an intentional way to participate in lifestyles that make sense to them and assist them to have a presence in the right places, with valued roles and connections and right relationships to others who are important to them.
A Note About Change
Milparinka is committed to responding to the needs of individual participants. As part of this commitment we understand that at times participants may change their minds about arrangements and directions and may want to try new things. We also know that as participants develop new skills then the shape of what we provide may need to change to improve the services and environment that we provide. This means that increasingly our participants lead the way, and as much as possible self direct and have authority and influence over their supports providing significant direction in the work that you will be doing.
While there are some things that we need to keep the same, to ensure consistency and quality of support, everything we do is reviewable in context of changing service user needs, ambitions or new opportunities. This means that during the year there can be a fair amount of change in the work we ask staff to undertake within their Facilitator role. You can expect reviews of how we work and changes in your role to occur throughout the year. Sometimes this change can occur very quickly.
If you do not like, or struggle with, change, especially change which is service user directed, and expect your working role and relationships to remain the same throughout the next twelve months then you should reconsider your application for this position and discuss this with our managers prior to taking up a position with us.
