Dear Parent / Guardian
Re: Year 11 Leadership Camp, Term 3
The Year 11 Leadership Camp will be held at Luther Heights Youth Camp, Coolum from Wednesday 28 August to Friday 30 August 2019.
DEPARTURE DATE: Wednesday 28 August
DEPARTURE TIME: 3.30pm - leaving after school
RETURN DATE: Friday 30 August at approximately 6.00pm
VENUE: Luther Heights Youth Camp, Coolum
Luther Heights Youth Camp is overseen by Lutheran Youth Queensland and is a member of the Lutheran Church of Australia. It is situated in an elevated position with panoramic views extending over the ocean, Mount Coolum and the Maroochy Valley. It is set on 15 hectares of sub-tropical bush and parklands 1.5 kilometres south of Coolum Beach on the David Low Way. The camp is within easy walking distance of patrolled beaches.
The Camp has been developed with onsite staff to use cooperative and non-traditional games and initiative activities in a fun and supportive setting to facilitate personal growth and build leadership qualities and skills by:
1. Improving teamwork
2. Enhancing communication skills
3. Learning about trust and responsibility
4. Learning about co-operative power
6. Improving self-esteem
The activities are designed to both physically and emotionally challenge the students, taking them out of their comfort zone while developing collaborative and leadership skills. The responses to these situations and the self-analysis that follows are invaluable for the participant’s personal growth that will benefit each student in not only leadership roles, but in their personal relationships. The camp has had a positive impact on students in previous years and has allowed students to recognise both their strengths and weaknesses.
At Luther Heights and indeed at Concordia we stress that all people will be leaders at some point, whether by appointment or circumstance, and that they will find themselves in a position of influence. Concordia Lutheran College believes the opportunity provided by the camp at Luther Heights is best described as “unique and powerful”. This has been supported by student responses from previous years.
It is expected that all students will attend the camp and participate in group and individual activities. As this facility is managed by Luther Heights, all participants at the camp will be expected to adhere to a range of behavioural expectations.
Please assist us by prompt return of this permission form by Friday 9 August. For any queries please contact Carissa Jaworska, carissa.jaworska@concordia.qld.edu.au.
Yours sincerely
