  • Health and Safety
    Oakwood Equine, operating primarily as a horse-riding school endeavours to provide a safe environment which limits the possibility of injury, loss or damage to property. Students/Parents/Caregivers acknowledge that equine activities by their very nature involve some risk and as such agree that Oakwood Equine may not be held responsible for any injury, loss or damage which may occur as part of the activities of business of Oakwood Equine.

    Should a student have a fall or injury whilst on the premises or under instruction the coach reserves the right to stand down the student from further riding at their own discretion. In the case of a serious injury the closest Emergency Medical Centre is Silverdale Medical, the details of which can be found in the First Aid kit. Oakwood Equine reserves the right to call an ambulance if deemed necessary, all costs involved with such are that of the students. All falls and injuries will be reported in the accident register and Parent/Guardian will be notified.

    All relavent medical and disabilities must be declared prior to lessons commencing

    Appropriate attire must be worn by all riders while on the yard and riding, this consists of
    *Long Sleeved top and Long pants
    *Covered footwear with a heel and a smooth sole, Riding boots are ideal, Gumboots are okay. No open toed shoes, sandals or sneakers.
    *Riding helmet - a well fitted horse riding helmet which meets VG1 or similar standards, you may borrow a school helmet for your first term.
    *Back protectors are recommended for all pole work and jumping.

    Any person on the yard must wear appropriate covered shoes.

    Riders are required to partake in horsemanship activities within their lesson time, these skills are important for all horse riders and are not an optional part of the Oakwood Equine experience.

    FEES POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
    The current fees as of 07/2019 are as follows
    ½ hour casual lesson – School horse $45 Own horse $35
    1 hour casual lesson – School horse $75 Own horse $60
    ½ hour regular lesson – School horse $30 Own horse $20
    1 hour regular lesson – School horse $60 Own horse $50
    Own a pony days - $110
    Full week Own a pony days $500
    Lease horse program $50/week

    Oakwood Equine reserves the right to ammend the fees as necessary at the start of each school term block.

    Lessons must be paid in full prior to commencement of the lesson, if paying by automatic payment Oakwood Equine recommends that the payment is made the day prior to the lesson to ensure the payment clears in time. As you can imagine the running of a riding school takes up allot of time, as such Oakwood Equine has a strict no pay, no ride policy.

    REFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICIES
    No refunds will be given after the commencement of the lesson. Casual lessons may be refunded if given more than 48 hours’ notice, a cancellation fee of 50% is charged for casual lesson cancellations within 48 hours of the lesson.


    When booking for regular lessons you are making the commitment to attend lessons for the rest of the school term to secure your lesson space and receive the cheaper lesson rate, students are entitled to one make up lesson per term block, To be eligible for the make up lesson Oakwood Equine must receive 48 hours notice or a Drs certificate if within 48 hours.


    If a student is to be absent for more than one consecutive lesson, this must be discussed with management as soon as possible so the time slot can be given to another rider during this absence. Oakwood Equine reserves the right to charge a holding fee of 50% of each lesson missed.


    Oakwood Equine reserves the right to cancel a lesson due to weather conditions or other circumstances out of their control.
