We know that sometimes it’s just not possible to keep a pet. But before making the decision to surrender a pet, please consider all of your options. Contact behavior consultants or seek support with the issue at hand. It's also good to know that many problems can be improved by having your pet spayed or neutered. If you've exhausted all your options to keep them and you must surrender your pet, we are grateful for your commitment to their welfare.

Thank you for trusting us with your pet; we understand this is a difficult decision. Though we can't guarantee that we can take them, we will try to support you within our capacities and direct you towards the next steps.

Here at The SCARS we accept dogs that are 25 lbs or less and are good with dogs/cats/people (cats not a must). If your dog fits that criteria, we thank you in advance for filling in this form and providing us the following information about your pet. The more you share, the better it will help us with finding them the best foster placement and forever family.

It costs to save them and house them
When we take a dog in, we keep it in our home with our family and pets. Whether it takes weeks or months to find it a home, we keep the dog with us and incur the cost of it's care and vetting. We do not fundraise and pay for our rescue work out of our own pockets. It is partially funded by our adoption fees, but this typically does not cover all of our expenses during the year.

Please understand that you completely give up the ownership and all rights to this animal when you surrender it to The SCARS. Once the animal is surrendered, The SCARS have ownership and all rights to put up the dog for adoption and to place the dog into a forever home. The completed Owner Surrender Form is a contract to release the said animal to The SCARS therefore all provided information in this form must be answered correctly. By initialing below you are stating you have read and understood all terms of this form as listed above and there is no co-ownership on this animal you surrender to the rescue organization.

No other person has any legal or equitable ownership interest in the Animal.I have disclosed to The SCARS all material information regarding the medical and behavioral history of the Animal.

I further acknowledge that I am releasing the Animal completely voluntarily and that no representations, considerations or promises of any kind have been made to me by The SCARS or any of its representatives.
