United States Studies Centre Travel Support Scheme - Honours
Terms and Conditions
a. The United States Studies Centre Travel Support Scheme - Honours was established to assist students with travel costs to conduct research whilst enrolled in the American Studies Honours program at the University of Sydney.
b. This Scholarship is intended to support travel costs related to student's travel to archives, special collections and/or research institutes relevant to the advancement of the student's research.
c. This Scholarship is funded by the United States Studies Centre.
a. Applicants must be enrolled full time in the Honours year of their Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and be specialising in American Studies at the University of Sydney.
b. Applicants must provide a proposed budget of how the Scholarship funds will be used and will assist in the advancement of their research.
3. Selection Criteria
a. The Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, and applicant's proposed budget for use of the scholarship funds.
b. The Scholarship will be awarded on the nomination of a selection committee consisting of the Chief Operating Officer and Academic Officer of the United States Study Centre, or their nominee, and at least one other academic member of staff from the Centre.
a. . The Scholarship is valued at $2,500 per annum.
b. The Scholarship value will be paid as a one off payment after the census date of the relevant semester.
c. Deferral of the Scholarship is not permitted without the prior permission of the Chief Operating Officer and Academic Officer of the United States Study Centre and it is not transferable to another course or university.
d. The Scholarship will be offered subject to the availability of funds.
e. No other amount is payable.
5. Ongoing eligibility
a. To continue receipt of the Scholarship, the recipient
I. must maintain satisfactory academic performance,
II. is responsible for securing their own visa or travel authority for international travel,
Ill. must provide the Coordinator with reliable contact details during the duration of their overseas travel, and
IV. must provide evidence of the use of the scholarship funds during their travel, including receipts, invoices and other documentary proof of their research trip..
a. The Scholarship will be terminated if the recipient:
I. withdraws from an eligible course or fails to enrol,
II. withdraws from the eligible course,
Ill. commences part-time study without prior approval, IV. suspends candidature for more than one semester,
V. does not maintain satisfactory academic performance,
VI. is determined by the University to be guilty of serious misconduct, including,but not limited to, having provided false or misleading information as part of their Scholarship application,
VII. does not resume study at the end of a period of approved leave, or
VIII. any other provision as indicated in these terms that would lead to termination.
b. Once the Scholarship has been terminated, it will not be reinstated.
c. Where a student is found guilty of serious misconduct or withdraws from the relevant course, the University and the United States Studies Centre reserve the right to request that any Scholarship funds paid to the Scholarship recipient be reimbursed.
