ADELAIDE GUITAR FESTIVAL'S GUITARS IN BARS
The 2019 Guitars in Bars Venue Directory helps to facilitate connections and conversations between venues and artists.
Adding yourself to the venue directory is free of charge and can be completed below. Adding to the venue directory does not guarantee you will become a Guitars In Bars venue. You will become a Guitars in Bars venue when you have at least one registered event associated with your venue. Event registration is $25 per event and can be completed when Event Registrations open after 1 March 2019.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A Guitars in Bars venue does not need to be a bar! - That's right, past venues include a florist, a houseboat, a library, winery, guitar store, and barn! As long as your venue adheres to the rules of your local council then it's fine by us!
How do I find a musician? When you add yourself to the venue directory, you will be added to an online map at adelaideguitarfestival.com.au. Artists will be able to view the location of the venue, the details you entered below and your contact details. If the artist thinks your venue is appropriate, they will contact you directly.
Do I need to accept every musician that contacts me? Certainly not. Treat live music programming the same way you do every other aspect of your business. Do your research on the artist, will they suit your regular crowd? will they attract new visitors to your venue? Are those new visitors likely to be the sort that would suit your venue moving forward?
Do I need to pay the musician? A musician is doing a job just like anyone else working in your venue and will generally need to be compensated. The financial negotiation is only between you and the artist and there are many different options available. Some include: Paying an artist a set fee for performance time, offering a box office deal where the artist collects ticket sales or a combination of both where the artist receives a guarantee + a share of the box office.
Help! I haven't had any musicians contact me! Never fear, there are other ways to find artists. Try asking your regulars who they would like to see at your venue, put up a sign in your venue saying that you are accepting expressions of interest from artists, go to other gig nights and invite.
If you are a year-round venue and already host live music events, start by getting in touch with those artists who regularly perform at your venue to see if they are wanting to present a show during the 2019 Guitars in Bars program.
I have multiple performance spaces in my venue!! Awesome! Please register your venue separately for each space. Please name each room as [VENUE] - [SPACE].
For example, The Top Pub - Dining room, The Top Pub - Front Bar etc
