  • CALL FOR PAPERS - 2019 QELA CONFERENCE
    5-7 June 2018 *******Novotel Twin Waters Resort, Sunshine Coast

    QELA is excited to announce the 2019 QELA Conference will be held Wednesday, 5 June to Friday, 7 June 2019 at Novotel Twin Waters Resort, Sunshine Coast.

    The theme of the 2019 QELA Conference is "The Greater Good".

  • The Urban Dictionary defines 'the greater good' as “actively participating with accountability in the positive growth of social, economic and political change”.
    It is also known as the common good or the public good.

    As we grapple with complex challenges in the planning and environment landscape, it is important that we understand how these challenges, and our responses to them, influence the greater good for both current and future generations.

    The 2019 QELA Conference is about recognising the important role that the planning and environment community plays in effecting change and driving outcomes for the greater good, in all areas of our diverse jurisdiction, including (but not limited to) in the areas of:

    • Waste reduction and recycling;
    • Transport and infrastructure;
    • Renewable energy and climate change;
    • All things “E” – environment, ecology, ecosystems;
    • Native title and cultural heritage;
    • Future proofing cities;
    • Harnessing the power of technology;
    • Equitable and efficient Court processes; and
    • Community engagement and involvement.

    The greater good is reached when we work together to improve the well-being of people in our society and take account of the social, economic and environmental impacts.

    In the wise words of Dr. Seuss, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better.  It’s not”.
