The Johnston family in conjunction with the Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby League Referees Association are proud to introudce the Johnston-Sharpe Scholarship to support emerging female referees in Qld. The applicants will be progressing with their refereeing career whilst pursuing tertiary studies or a trade based apprenticeship.
Scholarship Value
$2,000 - to be shared equally amongst the successful recipients. The judging panel reserve the right to deem all or any applicants ineligible and have the power to grant the scholarship to a maximum of two (2) joint grantees.
Eligibility
Can't have received the scholarship previously
Must have been an active referee for two (2) years, having been appointed to a minimum of Under 12's
No disciplinary issues with the member in the past 12 months
Must be studying a minimum of undergraduate degree at university (either on campus or externally) or have commenced a registered apprenticeship/traineeship and have obtained employment in that field
Applicants must be seen to be a contributing member of the association
Application Method
The applicant must submit an application that gives a brief profile of their officiating and academic achievements to date as well as outlining their goals for both studying and officiating. In addition the member must give examples of how they contribute to the association over and above their on-field duties.
The applications will be shortlisted by the SCGRLRA Mgt Commitee, ensuring all of the shortlisted applications meet the criteria, then all applications that meet the criteria will be passed on to the judging panel.
Judging Panel
The judging panel will be made up of Paul Stephenson (QRL State Officiating Manager), a member of the Johnston family (or nominee), and a mystery judge.
Dates
Applications open 2nd June 2021 and close 16th June 2021 with winner announced at the Ampol Women's State of Origin (25th June 2021).
