  • Before submitting your application it is important that you read the ACEM Policy on Endorsement of research projects.

    Please include the details of the lead investigators (two maximum) below. The full Steering Committee membership should be provided in your cover letter and/or study proposal.

  • Project Liaison

    Please include the details of the chief liaison for the project (usually Chair of the Steering Committee). This individual understands that s(he) is responsible for liaison with ACEM, and notifying the Research Coordinator with respect to any major design or administration changes that occur after endorsement is conferred.

    The below criteria listed below must be clearly apparent in the study proposal and/or addressed in the Cover Letter. Adherence to the SPIRIT 2013 Checklist: Recommended items to address in a clinical trial protocol or the REporting of studies Conducted using Observational Routinely-collected health Data (RECORD) Statement will normally fulfil all application requirements:

    • Identification of nominated Steering Committee membership (including an indication of which individuals are members of the ACEM CTN or EDEN)
    • A clearly defined research question and a rationale outlining the importance of the question to emergency medicine and the overall aims of the project
    • Robust internal validity (methodology) and external validity (applicability)
    • Evidence of feasibility, and/or a demonstration of in-principle support from some sites
    • A description of how resources are sufficient for project completion
    • Consideration of all relevant ethical issues
    • Where appropriate, applicants will consider the issues of knowledge translation in their proposal

  • Section 3 - Agreement and submission

  • Should this project receive endorsement, such endorsement will be contingent upon the Steering Committee:

    • Complying with codes of research conduct such as the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research produced by the NHMRC;
    • Updating ACEM with respect to any major design or administration changes;
    • Upon request, making available to ACEM the records of steering committee meetings;
    • Listing the study on a clinical trials registry (where applicable);
    • Submitting annual study progress reports to ACEM;
    • Complying with Section 7 of the ACEM Policy on Endorsement of Studies with respect to manuscripts arising from the study; and
    • Presenting updates on the project at the annual Research Network Symposium.

    ACEM reserves the right to withdraw endorsement at any stage should the study not progress adequately, or if irresolvable conflicts of interest arise.
