  • **IMPORTANT--PLEASE READ**:

This is our 'first opportunity' to learn about you/your family. The more detailed info you provide, the better we can get to know you & determine "best fit" with one of our dogs or pups! You don't need to "write a novel" in response to every question, but providing us with more than "yes/no" if there's an opportunity to give a bit more info is best! :) Please also initial each section below to acknowledge you've read it and understand. Thank you!

  • What You Should Know

  • IMPORTANT:  Submitting an application does not guarantee an animal will be adopted to you/your family; nor does it obligate you to adopt. We reserve the right to deny any application without explanation. We reserve the right to deny any application if an applicant is misleading or dishonest in their application.  Bark Bark Wag has a "zero tolerance policy" re: inappropriate, adversarial, rude or threatening behavior toward any of our volunteers, foster families, veterinarians/staff, or any of our affiliates.

We do NOT work on a "first come, first served" basis. We screen applications fully, and select families for each of our dogs based on where they will fit best and be happiest. In some situations and circumstances, Bark Bark Wag may utilize a "trial adoption/foster-to-adopt" period of 1-3 weeks at our discretion, depending on the needs of the BBW foster dog. The BBW foster dog remains the legal property of Bark Bark Wag Dog Rescue throughout this trial/foster-to-adopt period, which can be terminated by either party at anytime during the stated time period, and only converts to a formal adoption upon the mutual agreement of Bark Bark Wag Dog Rescue and the prospective adopting family. Our adoption contract states that your adopted dog MUST be returned to Bark Bark Wag Dog Rescue if you are no longer able to care for him/her for any reason.

Dogs require some or all of the following vaccines/tests EVERY YEAR for the rest of their lives: Heartworm test (heartworm is transmitted to dogs through the bite of an infected mosquito); monthly/year-round heartworm prevention (i.e. Heartgard); DHPP (preferred) or DHLPP (distemper, hepatitus, parvovirus, leptospirosis); Rabies (1 year or 3 year vaccines); Bordetella (kennel cough); and Lyme (to protect against Lyme disease, transmitted to dogs by ticks).  The costs for these vaccines/tests can be $300 or more a year, per animal.

These costs, along with food; groomer visits; petsitters/kennel stays while you are traveling; and any other illnesses or injuries -- and the cost of bringing an animal into your family can be as much as $600 or more/year, per animal. Please consider this before making the decision to bring a new animal into your home and family.

Bark Bark Wag's adoption fees include age-appropriate vaccines; heartworm tests and fecal checks/medication as needed; microchipping; spay/neuter (unless the dog is younger than 6 mos. of age, then a certificate will be provided by the Rescue upon request for spay/neuter, redeemable at All About Animals Clinic in Warren, MI); and a wellness and health check by a licensed veterinarian.

We cannot guarantee the future health of any of our animals--rescued dogs have unknown medical (and behavioral) histories.  All fees are used toward our mission of rescuing dogs from unsafe situations; providing them with any/all needed vet care; and finding them fully-screened and loving homes... thereby preventing unnecessary euthanasia or suffering.

We cannot guarantee the age/breed of our rescued dogs.  We depend on our veterinarians to help us make the best determination on age/breed for all of our dogs; unless we receive written documentation from the shelter where the dog was surrendered. We make every effort to process new applications as quickly as possible; please understand that we are all volunteers with jobs, pets, and families.  We appreciate your patience and support for Bark Bark Wag!
