OVERVIEW:
Leadership Fiji is an independent, non-partisan, non-aligned entity, which depends on support drawn from the corporate, public and community sectors. Leadership Fiji was launched in 2001.
The development of leaders is fundamental to a Nation’s well-being and to the development of a society that is economically, socially and politically successful.
The Leadership Fiji programme is aimed specifically at assisting our emerging leaders to cope with demands of the ever-changing world so that our society reaches its full potential in the widest sense.

This Mission will be accomplished by:
- Involving emerging leaders in a programme which broadens their understanding of the many issues affecting the community
- Facilitating dialogue amongst emerging leaders with varied background and interests who can influence public and private institutions
- Providing opportunities for communication between emerging and established leaders
- Encouraging emerging leaders to make a greater commitment to the development of their community
- Providing a forum for networking, personal development and exchange of ideas
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES:
Leadership Fiji is a leadership enhancing experience. It is a programme of events and activities from March to November. These events and activities are designed to enable participants to meet to discuss and debate issues among themselves and with invited speakers who demonstrate leadership skills and characteristics.
The programme will facilitate a network to enable ongoing communication through engagement between emerging leaders.
- Is firmly committed to the belief that its most valuable resources are the participants themselves.
- Allows a member to explore their own values, philosophies, prejudices and beliefs through opportunities offered by the programme.
- Canvasses a variety of issues which focus on the next five years. These are chosen from the recommendation of those running the programme as well as those who will participate in the programme.
- Gives participants close interaction with Fiji’s leaders in fields such as government, business, environment, the welfare sector, unions, agriculture and tourism to name a few.
- Is designed to encourage and extended interchange throughout the year and beyond between participants.
- Ensures discussion confidentiality by insistence on “Chatham House” rule, i.e. nothing attributable outside the room.
PARTICIPANTS SELECTION CRITERIA:
Participants must:
- Be citizens and residents of Fiji.
- Be men and women of initiative with 5 years’ experience in their areas of expertise, who are committed to a better future for all Fijians.
- Have a demonstrated capacity for leadership.
- Be able to contribute $475 of the total fee of $1,900 towards the programme [75% by sponsor / 25% by participant]. Employers may also pay the full programme fee as part of Professional Development for the year.
- If selected pay the contribution of $475 prior to the commencement of the program in March and the total fee of $1,900 must be paid in full before 15th June 2018.
- Be prepared to commit fully to the programme timetable.
- Be willing to increase their involvement in community affairs.
Instructions & Advice
- The Selection Panel uses the application form to short list candidates for the interview process.
- Please complete each section in full.
- Type or print clearly all answers.
- Limit answers to available space.
- Nominees must have the full support of the organization they represent as the programme requires a minimum of two full days per month at Leadership Fiji programme events. These events are held mid-week. Individuals may nominate themselves. All nominations are subject to confidential evaluation by a selection panel.
- Application must be signed by both candidate and employer, where applicable.
- A selection of applications will be interviewed by the panel in early to mid January 2018.
- Attendance at the Opening, Mid-Year and Closing Retreats is mandatory. Those who fail to attend will be ineligible for graduation from the programme.
- Leadership Fiji is committed to encourage a broad range of candidates from diverse activities and areas of interest. Individuals or supporting organizations should not be discouraged from applying due to economic reasons.
- For each programme intake, a balanced mix of gender, race, location, profit/ non-profit, public/ private leaders from diverse sectors of the community is needed.
All applicants will need to convince the selection panel of their ability and of their willingness to allocate sufficient time to successfully complete the programme and an ongoing commitment to join the Leadership Fiji Alumni Fellows, in community development activities.
