5. RELATED PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES DOCUMENTATION (See examples in Appendix C)
Through the documentation of advanced level skills in swallowing and swallowing disorders, candidates must demonstrate that they have applied the highest level of ethical standards in their practice (i.e., service delivery and in the conduct of scholarship, research, and/or training). The expectation is that applicants can demonstrate "advanced" clinical and professional skills over the past 3 years.
All applicants for BCS-S must evidence ADVANCED CLINICAL OR LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE by having a sufficient number of swallowing related activities, accomplishments, and/or publications beyond those expected in the regular execution of their job. Therefore, it is critical and expected that the applicant be involved in professional activities related to dysphagia outside of their institution.
There are distinctly different requirements for each track:
All applicants for BCS-S must evidence ADVANCED CLINICAL OR LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE by having a sufficient number of activities, accomplishments, and/or publications beyond those expected in the regular execution of their job. Therefore, it is critical and expected that the applicant be involved in professional activities related to dysphagia outside of their institution. Applicants must include examples of local, regional, state or national activities. These outside activities can be in any or all of the categories of education/mentorship, leadership, scholarship/research.
A. Applicants in the Clinical Track must evidence advanced skills either by satisfying a minimum of four related professional activities within one category or at least two activities in two different category types (i.e., education/mentorship, leadership, scholarship/research). If the applicant chooses to provide documentation of advanced experience in just one of the 3 related professional areas, there must be evidence of sufficient depth in that category. Although it is not expected that an applicant for the Clinical track will have advanced activities in the Research category, if this is relevant, they should be included.
(See examples in Appendix C)
B. Applicants in the Academic/Administrative Track must evidence advanced skills in at least two different category types. The required categories must be education/mentorship and/or Leadership. Evidence of advanced skill includes satisfying a minimum of four related professional activities in education/mentorship or leadership. If the applicant is in an academic institution, activities in the scholarship/research category are highly desirable. All related professional activities should be listed when they occur in the other categories.
Please include year for each RPA.
