  • Southern Homekill Services operates out of Riversdale Meats, we kill primarily for Riversdale Meats but also deliver to other processors in Southland Otago.

    Daniel has 30 years involvment in the butchery industry and is happy to offer advise and recommendations on your homekill requirements. 

      All beef dispatched via .308, and sheep/pigs by .22 Magnum.

    We prefer to have beef in a paddock with another beef to keep it calm. Paddock must be accessible and dry for a truck.

    Sheep must be ready in a small pen that is acessible for a truck to pull up beside them. We also carry prattleys if needed.

    We do not "pith" the beef to make it tough.

    We operate a hiab crane to swing the beef around to dump offal in a trailer or bucket for easy disposal.

    All animals are clearley labeled, onfarm, before they go into the truck.

    Current homekill runs out of our area. Processing space may be full at times for Riversdale Meats but can still kill and deliver to other Butchers.

    When beef is slaughtered we do not "pith" the spinal cord, from 16 years of homekill experience, we know pithing makes the meat tough, with a high acidic pH........

    ...so we don't  do it to your beef!


    Instead we bleed the animal out normally and hang for 10 days so you get the most tender beef possible.
