  • Spinal Cord Injury and Health Information

    This section asks for your details about your spinal cord injury and any other health conditions.
  • Eligibility Criteria

    Before submitting your booking please note eligibility criteria: In booking a stay at the resort, I acknowledge that:


    1. I have permanent damage to my spinal cord that is not progressive or palliative. Sargood on Collaroy reserves the right to cancel bookings that do not meet the criteria for spinal cord injury.

    2. My needs meet the primary purpose of Sargood on Collaroy that is to support and promote access and inclusion for people with spinal cord injury.

    3. Sargood on Collaroy is not equipped to support ventilator dependent tetraplegics. If you use Oxygen Concentrator, please contact us to discuss whether your support requirements are able to be met.

    4. Sargood on Collaroy cannot support you if you have significant behaviours of concerns or addictions that may affect the quiet enjoyment of other guests.

    5. The staff at Sargood on Collaroy are trained to support people with Traumatic Spinal Cord Injuries. If my care requirements are complex and likely to exceed the staff’s skill set, I understand that I might be required to bring my own trained support.

    6. Sargood on Collaroy is not a medical facility and the staff cannot manage any medical conditions I may have. I understand that an ambulance will be called for me if I require medical attention and that I will be responsible for any costs incurred in transporting me and/or my equipment to and from hospital.

     

    Sargood on Collaroy does NOT supply the following items:

    - Medications

    - Bowel & Bladder continence supplies or night bags/bottles

    - Wound dressing supplies

    - Respiratory equipment

    - Wheelchairs

    - Food (you are welcome to order from coles and have it delivered to us to unpack on the day of check in)

  • If you weigh over 100kg you may require specialised equipment or additional assistance during your stay. Your participation may be limited in some recreational activities e.g. we are unable to support surfing and snorkling above this weight range. 

  • We have a number of standard power wheelchair chargers. You will have the opportunity to choose to add this to your booking when you get the your reservation details in the form.

     

    We do not supply chargers for power assist devices, please make sure you bring your own with you (i.e. SmartDrive, Batec etc.)

  • Choosing your Accommodation Package and Funding Your Stay

    This section asks about how you are funding your stay.

  • Sargood on Collaroy offers 3 accommodation and assistance packages. Detailed information about our packages can be found on our website. In summary:

    • The Wellness and Support Package is $985/night and is for guests that require no personal care from us.
    • The Wellness and High Support Package is $1365/night and entitles guests up to 6 hours of personal care per day.
    • The Wellness and Very High Support Package is $1740/night and entitles guests up to 12 hours of personal care per day.

    • icare guests can seek and gain pre-approval for up to 28 days per year from approval date. You can choose to use these in short stays or long stays.

      If you have been pre-approved for your stay, you will have received a 'Notice of Assessment' from your icare Coordinator or Case Manager. This approval will need to be uploaded here. 

      If you do not have this document you will need to contact your icare Coordinator or Case Manager before you can book in to stay at Sargood on Collaroy.

      You must seek a seperate approval from icare if you are wanting to stay in the 2 room family room. 

      Cancellation Policy: 

      If less than five (5) clear business days’ notice is given to cancel a reservation, 100% of the total fee must be paid (to a maximum of 5 nights). There is no charge if more notice of cancellation is given.

      In the case of a shortened stay or amended dates of bookings, no less than five (5) clear business days’ notice prior to the original arrival date is required, or a one (1) night charge will be incurred.

    • NDIS participants may receive funding for one of our Short Term Accomodation and Assistance Packages, for periods up to 14 days at a time. 

      The NDIS will NOT cover the cost of an additional room, ocean view room upgrades, tickets to events or travel expenses associated with stay.

    • NDIS self managed participants and privately paying guests will be issued an invoice on or after the day of departure, to arrange payment. Payment can also be made by EFTPOS transaction at reception on day of departure.

    • Where need can be demonstrated, The Sargood Foundation will consider requests to sponsor a stay for those who face financial hardship, have a particular rehabilitation goal or who are otherwise in need of the services provided by Sargood on Collaroy.  

      Available dates will be offered by The Sargood Foundation keeping your preference of dates in mind.

      You may be asked to demonstrate your financial hardship by supplying the following documents. This may include:

      - a copy of your tax returns showing your household income from the last financial year
      - a copy of your concession card
      - other evidence from Centrelink or Government body

      All financial assistance is granted at the discretion of the Sargood Foundation and available funding. 

      Once we receive this Booking Request Form, Sargood on Collaroy will be in touch with you to notify you regarding the outcome of your application.  

    • Royal Rehab Grant 
    • Royal Rehab Grant

    • Royal Rehab – Sargood on Collaroy recognises the challenges and hardships associated with long hospital stays.  We see undeniable benefits for individuals and families who are given the opportunity to spend time away from the hospital to recover and reconnect in a different environment.

      For people who do not have access to insurance or are currently waiting for NDIS plans to be approved, Royal Rehab – Sargood on Collaroy would like to offer a 2 night fully funded stay at the package rate relevant to your needs. 

      Please note: Each spinal injury unit has a different policy about weekend leave. Generally, hospitals will only allow between 1-3 nights leave while you are an inpatient.  

    • ParaQuad SA & Foundation 
    • Funded Stay from ParaQuad SA & The Sargood Foundation

    • ParaQuad SA have recommended and offered you a funded stay at Sargood on Collaroy, in collaboration with Sargood Foundation. To qualify for this funded stay, you must be an Australian resident with SCI and not covered by insurance, nor have the financial means to fund your own stay.

      Where need can be demonstrated, The Sargood Foundation will consider requests to sponsor a stay for those who face financial hardship, have a particular rehabilitation goal or who are otherwise in need of the services provided by Sargood on Collaroy.  

      Available dates will be offered by The Sargood Foundation keeping your preference of dates in mind.

      You may be asked to demonstrate your financial hardship by supplying the following documents. This may include:

      - a copy of your tax returns showing your household income from the last financial year
      - a copy of your concession card
      - other evidence from Centrelink or Government body

       

      All financial assistance is granted at the discretion of the Sargood Foundation and available funding. 

      Guests who receive this funding will be asked for a testimonial of their stay.

      Once we receive this Booking Request Form, Sargood on Collaroy will be in touch with you to notify you regarding the outcome of your application.  

    • Travel Grant 
    • Request for a Travel Grant

      With thanks to the Sargood Foundation
    • The Sargood Foundation will be providing travel assistance grants of up to $500 to prospective guests who require financial assistance to travel to and from Sargood on Collaroy.

      Eligibility:

      The recipient will be selected from applicants at the discretion of Sargood on Collaroy Clinical team on behalf of the Sargood Foundation, based on the following criteria:

      • The needs of the applicant meet the primary purpose of Sargood on Collaroy, that is to support and promote access and inclusion for people with spinal cord injury
      • An Australian citizen or Permanent Resident
      • This grant is only payable to those not covered by icare or other agencies who will cover transport costs or to those who have received not significant financial compensation
      • Have not previously received any Sargood Foundation travel grant

      The recipients of the grants will be selected from applicants at the discretion of the Sargood Foundation.

      Financial Hardship Criteria:

      As the intention of this grant is to provide benefit to those in need, applicants must please note:

      • Preference will be given to applicants that can demonstrate financial hardship
      • Applicants may be required to share on request supporting financial information that evidences that they do not have the financial capacity to self-fund this stay – such as tax return etc

      Payment of Grant if your Application is Successful:

      Payments will be given as reimbursement (not prior to your travel) and are dependant on presentation of relevant receipts as agreed on arrival at Sargood on Collaroy – Sargood on Collaroy will reimburse or organise direct payment of taxi’s if needed.

      There is no roll over of unspent funds.

  • Sargood on Collaroy is happy to accommodate guests travelling with an assistance animal. If you have an assistance animal, and are visiting from another state, please note that you will still need to follow the Sargood on Collaroy policy, which adheres to NSW Legislation as stated by the Office of Local Government (click here for more details). Please ask management for a copy of the policy if you have not preiously viewed it. 

    Sargood on Collaroy requires proof of accreditation before allowing an animal to accompany a guest.  Any guest bringing an animal without the proper accreditation, will be required to arrange alternate housing for the animal during your stay at Sargood on Collaroy. 

    Guide Dogs and Assistance Dogs must have a medallion on their collar with the registration number and/or the owner must also carry a laminated pass (with the owner and dog’s name). Guide Dogs and Assistance Dogs are required to be harnessed and wearing their bibs in all public areas within Sargood on Collaroy.

  • Due to high demand, there is a $100 per night surcharge for additional rooms during in peak holiday periods. The ocean view upgrade is an addiitonal $200 per night during these periods.

      Forte Sovereign ("purple mattress") - a static foam mattress designed to distribute pressure while also allowing the user to maintain their ability to move around on the bed for transfers, dressing, etc.

      Hotel Mattress - a combination mattress that utilises a Forte Sovereign mattress as the base, with a 50mm memory foam overlay to increase immersion. This improves pressure distribution and comfort but is more difficult to move around on.

      18cm Air Mattress - Talley Quattro Plus alternating air mattress. A mid-level air mattress that aims to provide alternating pressure relief for people who at high risk of pressure injury.

      24cm Air Mattress - Talley Quattro Acute alternating air mattress. A top-level air mattress that aims to provide a high degree of alternating pressure relief for people who at very high risk of pressure injury.

    • A consultative Occupational Therapy service is available at Sargood on Collaroy on Thursdays and Fridays. Our Occupational Therapist, David Simpson, has worked with people with SCI for over 15 years, and as well as being able to discuss any of the regular OT topics he has a particular interest in seating and electronic assistive technology.

      Please use this part of the form to let us know if you would like to have some time with our OT during your stay, to discuss ways for you to do more and become more independent.

    • Weekly Activity Program

    • Get involved in our weekly activities program, included in all accommodation packages, to get the most out of your stay. Our activities cater for all levels of ability with guests supported by our therapists and trained staff. All classes must be booked with reception to guarantee availability.

      Note: Currently our classes are designed for guests living with spinal cord injury. Family and friends are encouraged to join in however, they must organise or supply their own transport and equipment.
