About Orange Sky
Orange Sky is a not-for-profit organisation focused on the provision of free laundry and showers to people experiencing homelessness. We're growing, and fast. Since 2014, we've expanded our reach to every capital city in Australia and most recently, we have established Orange Sky New Zealand. Next steps include further growth in New Zealand, urban and remote Australia, and potentially elsewhere across the globe.
Over the last five years, we’ve positively connected thousands of people including donors, friends on the street and volunteers. The finance and people & development (HR) functions at Orange Sky are critical to this impact and as such needs a qualified and skilled leader to take the helm of them.
This role will oversee both the Finance and People and Development teams at Orange Sky; driving our strategy and performance to support our goals of positively connecting communities. The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will:
Keep an eye on things.
You’ll lead a small but high performing team of people responsible for all things finance, legal and people related including leading our
Statutory reporting requirements
Finance functions across our Australian and New Zealand entities
HR functions and effective collaboration with other teams to recruit, engage and retain our team of high performing staff
Pro-bono legal providers to execute legal matters
Business and system improvements to ensure scalability as we grow and appropriate internal controls are maintained;
Plan things out.
Life at Orange Sky is seriously fun, fast-paced and energetic. We enjoy challenging the norms and we value innovation. Recognising the need for a ‘behind the scenes’, internally facing role, the CFO (in conjunction with the leadership team and board) will continue the build of our long term strategy. You’ll be heavy on processes and executing strategy, yet fluid in your approach to getting things done – curveballs don’t discourage you, because you’ve mastered the art of mapping the steps involved to achieve targets and lead people to an outcome. You’re not afraid to sometimes be the bad guy and say ‘no’, or ‘not now’. A pragmatic approach to tying the execution of our lofty goals with limited resources will come from your extensive experience in similar roles.
Lead, and lead well.
This role will bring a level of maturity to help lead and mentor a team in the earlier stages of their career with big ambitions. Adjusting management and leadership approaches to best support the team, individual goal setting and empowering people will come naturally to you. You have an innate ability to recognise potential in people and a knack for drawing it out. Encouraging and channelling creativity into a strategic, structured approach will be key in this role, but never at the expense of our core mission and values.
Convinced this is the role for you?
We need someone who can think outside the box, and understand our unique environment. You’ll thrive on the challenge of something new. Not-for-profit experience is great, but not essential. You will come from finance or corporate services role at an executive level, with proven experience in managing a diverse team.
