• The Beatitudes - Day 3
All are under Sin
  • Romans 3:9-18 is a conglomeration of passages from the Old Testament describing the moral character of the whole human race – you and I included. Read the passage. What is Paul’s main point.

  • Romans 3:9-18 What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, as it is written:

    "None is righteous, no, not one;

       no one understands;

       no one seeks for God.

    All have turned aside;

    together they have become worthless;

       no one does good,

       not even one."

    "Their throat is an open grave;

       they use their tongues to deceive."

    "The venom of asps is under their lips."

       "Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness."

    "Their feet are swift to shed blood;

       in their paths are ruin and misery,

       and the way of peace they have not known."

    "There is no fear of God before their eyes."

  • Paul says that all people are under sin. What do you think this phrase means?

  • The Beatitudes - Day 3
All are under Sin
  • As hard as it is to hear, this passage describes you and me. Read it again slowly and think about how each line reflects your life outside of Christ.

  • Do you agree with its analysis of you? Why or why not?

  • Pray to God acknowledging your sinfulness and asking Him for mercy in Christ.

  • The Beatitudes - Day 3
All are under Sin
  • In this meditation we have seen God's analysis of our own sinfulness. Acknowledging this is the first step in being poor in spirit.

    In the next meditation, we will look at the second characteristic of the one who God approves.

    Until then may the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
