Introduction
You are invited to participate in a research project being conducted by researchers from Western Governors University. Rebecca A. Williams is conducting research to determine what nurses describe as reasons for leaving the bedside to pursue a non-clinical nursing profession.
Description of the project:
As a participant, you will be participating in a questionnaire and potentially an in-depth interview. The questionnaire will be completed via a questionnaire link posted on the Allnurses.com website. The questionnaire will be open for 2 weeks and composed of several questions that will take approximately 15 minutes to complete. If chosen from the questionnaire survey, the in-depth interviews will be conducted at the convenience of the interviewee via phone or face to face. The in-depth interviews will last no longer than 1 hour.
Benefits and Risks of this study:
As a participant, the risks of completing this questionnaire and interview are anxiety about answering the researchers’ questions. The risks of participating in the interview are the loss of anonymity to the researcher only and describing your feelings to the researcher. There may be no direct benefit to you for your participation in this study; however, the knowledge gained by this study may help the future of bedside nursing within the profession. There is no monetary compensation for participation in the study.
Confidentiality:
Be assured that as a participant in this study, your personal information will remain confidential. Your identity will never be disclosed in reports. The anonymous qualitative data contained in the research will be published. Audio recordings of the interviews will be destroyed immediately at the finalization of the study.
Voluntary participation and withdrawal:
Your participation in this study is completely voluntary and participants are expected to answer the researcher’s questions and describe personal feelings. You may choose to voluntarily participate or withdraw from questionnaires, audio taping and interviews at any point. You are free to not answer questions if you choose. You will not be penalized for non-participation and may withdraw at any time during this study without explanation.
